Ahly has reached the Egypt Cup round of 16 after claiming a 3-2 win over second-tier Tersana at El-Salam Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday.
The Red Devils kept just two players from its team fielded against Es Setif in the Champions League semis, as the team was forced to play without their international players in addition to others who missed the game due to injury.
Tersana stunned the Egyptian champions in the fourth minute when defender Hisham Ragab opened the scoring with a nice header.
Winger Mohamed Sherif levelled the score eight minutes before the break.
Four minutes after the hour-mark, Tersana’s forward Omar Tarek added the second for his side, but Sherif came to the rescue again seven minutes later.
Substitute Ahmed El-Sheikh scored the winner for Ahly with one minute remaining, lifting his side for the next round to set a date with Pyramids, who reached the same round after defeating Tanta 3-2 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Wadi Degala advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Gouna 4-1 in Cairo.
They will face the winner of the game between Maqassa and Abou Qir Lil Assmeda in the next round.
