Deployed policemen in all governorates nationwide distributed chocolates and roses on passersby, while people and children presented flowers to policemen in main squares and roads, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior on Saturday.
The interior ministry celebrated its 68th annual National Police Day on Saturday, which coincides with the anniversary of the 25 January 2011 Revolution.
The ministry said it will continue to commemorate the event throughout the day.
On the occasion of the day, the interior ministry released 2,957 prisoners, with 498 others seeing conditional releases.
The ministry said the pardon came as part of the ministry’s keenness to implement modern penal policy and activate its operational role in the rehabilitation of prisoners to reintegrate them in society.
