Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Tuesday a phone call from his American counterpart Mike Pompeo to discuss ways to face the current pandemic of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), reported a Foreign Ministry’s official statement.
The two officials viewed national efforts exerted by Egypt and the United States to contain the current pandemic and mitigate its negative impact on the international economy.
The Ministry’s spokesperson Ahmed Hafez added that the two officials expressed mutual solidarity during the current international crisis.
Hafez said that the phone call witnessed a discussion on Egyptian-US relations and the current regional developments.
The American State Secretary Pompeo expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian government and EgyptAir for scheduling special flights to repatriate American citizens stranded abroad.
Several flights have been operated in the past days to repatriate US citizens back home, including a final flight on 5 April and another flight operated by AirCairo to Paris next Sunday.
