President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inspected construction sites on Thursday to follow up on the implementation of coronavirus preventative measures.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has issued directives to all government departments concerned with public health to ensure that the maximum protection and safety degrees and precautionary measures are taken at all workplaces.
A video circulated by social media users showed the president scolding a construction site manager for letting the labourers work without face masks.
The president gave directives to give masks to all workers at the site, according to the video.
In a separate statement on Thursday, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said that the president has instructed the relevant bodies to stress to all companies the necessity of providing “the highest level of protection and abiding precisely by the coronavirus preventative measures.”
The spokesman noted that El-Sisi’s statement comes on the back of his inspection tour of the construction projects and as a result of the “non-compliance with the precautionary measures aiming to protect the site workers” that he observed.
President El-Sisi also underlined the significance of wearing medical masks and avoided crowded gatherings, especially those who work on different projects nationwide.
Earlier this week, during a televised speech, El-Sisi said that “sometimes I inspect the situation on the streets just before curfew … [But] I don’t feel people pay attention [to the coronavirus] … I find people in a microbus not wearing medical masks.”
He said the state is ready to distribute masks at half-price or for free if necessary.
