Of all the TV series that aired this Ramadan, few have moved the Egyptian populace as much as “Al Ikhtiyar,” recounting the story of Colonel Ahmed Mansy, who led a special ops military battalion in battles against terrorists in North Sinai. And now with the airing of the 28th episode of the show, the people’s emotions have reached new heights.
The show is derived from the real life story of Colonel Mansy and his men, many of whom lost their lives in 2017 along with Mansy during their battle with a terrorist cell based in North Sinai.
The 28th episode of the show aired, causing a tsunami of online reactions, and considering it is the episode that depicts the death of Mansy and many of his men, it’s not hard to imagine why.
Social media exploded with the emotions of viewers who got a front row seat to what really happened between Battalion 103 of the sa3qa division and the brutal acts of the terrorist who took the lives of many soldiers of the battalion as well as their leader.
In a show of reverence towards the events that happened, the episode was aired with no commercial breaks, and was also made available for all to watch free of charge on Egyptian streaming platform Shahid.

Following the airing of the episode, several hashtags related to the series began trending on Twitter, with millions of viewers expressing their solidarity with the battalion and their acts of bravery to protect Egypt from the horrors of terrorism.
Mansy in particular was celebrated to no end by patrons of social media who have been hailing him as a national hero, as well as lamenting his tragic death with messages of love and respect.

The episode has had a profound effect on viewers, who have been denouncing the acts of the terrorist group that resulted in the death of many Egyptian soldiers.
The incident depicted on the show took place in 2017 and has since been called “The Epic of Barth” because it took place at the Barth Square in the Rafah area of North Sinai. Mansy’s heroic operations against the terrorist group in the area were legendary and they soon realized that he would be a formidable opponent, which made them double down on their efforts to gain ground in North Sinai, which led them to their outright attack of the battalion.

Following the airing of the episode, the Sinai Tribes Union’s Twitter account posted a photo of the house that the battalion was stationed at in their battle against the terrorist group, announcing that they also lost one of their own who was aiding Mansy and his men in their battle. The man in question was revealed to be Rashed Abu Oqla El Tarabeen, whose house the battalion used as their home base during the battle.
