UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process; Nikolay Mladenov, said on Tuesday that Cairo agreements represent the last chance for the Palestinians, adding that this chance should be exploited well.
Nikolay Mladenov’s statement came after a meeting with chief of the Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas Gaza Chief Yahya al-Sunwar and other leaders to discuss the file of Palestinian reconciliation and the implementation of understandings reached recently under the auspices of Egyptian intelligence in Cairo.
Nikolay Mladenov said that Cairo understandings represent the last chance to carry out the Palestinian reconciliation, warning against missing this chance.
He added that all parties must work to exploit this chance and implement it without any obstacles that might hinder the completion of the reconciliation.
He also revealed that he discussed with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas a plan through which the UN delegation would contribute to a successful implementation of the agreement.
