Following the terrorist attack that killed over 300 worshipers in Al-Rawdah Mosque in Bir Al-Abed, North Sinai, and the three-days of national mourning announced, the management of the Cairo Opera House suspended on Saturday all activities taking place across its venues in Cairo, Alexandria and Damanhour.
The suspension affects the activities managed by the Cairo Opera and does not apply to film screenings that are part of the ongoing 39th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) and which take place at the Cairo Opera, among other venues.
While denouncing the deadly attack, the festival’s president, Magda Wassef, and honorary president, Youssra, announced that the festival’s schedule will not be interrupted.
Cairo Opera House activities will resume Monday, 27 November.
Over 300 worshipers were killed and 128 others were injured by gunmen who attacked a mosque in North Sinai during Friday prayers, making the attack one of the deadliest targeting civilians in the country in recent years.
The presidency announced a nationwide three-day period of mourning following the terrorist attack.
